The jacket is very good with a few edge tears, a chip out of the font flap crease, and sun fading on the spine. A commemorative volume documenting a Grolier Club trip to Italy in 1962, this volume has a slip of paper tipped in on the ffep which is printed “Memo From Donald F. Hyde,” and typed “To Mr. David Fleeman / Date 5/26/63* / With our compliments / *The anniversary of our return from Italy.” Fleeman was, at one time, tasked with cataloguing the Hyde’s library, and Gabriel Austin also edited the Hyde’s Four Oaks Farm and Four Oaks Library. In addition, there are several pen and pencil notations within the text, correcting typos, questioning typos, adding information (i.e. where it states “Our bibliographer was…,” it is written “Herbert Calhoun I suppose”). It is unclear who made the notations, Hyde, Fleeman or Austin. Dust jacket present. First Edition.

The binding of the second volume is shaken with the first five signatures nearly detached. The third volume has light sunning around the edges of the wraps and heavy sun fading on the spine. This copy has been recently rebacked by a master bookbinder with gilt spine decorations and a dark red leather spine label with gilt titles and hand-made marbled endpapers (see photos). A lovely copy with light wear to the boards and corners, a few light, small pencil notes in the text and a tiny chip on the top edge of the front blank. A rather scarce volume of both A Journey Round and A Second Journey Round, both of which comprise what I’d call an enhanced (with insights, poetry and comment) bibliography of the perfect collection of profound and important works, including entries for: Biblia Sacra, 1455; Idem Opus, 1490; Terry’s Voyage to East India, 1655; Cabinet du Roi de France, 1677-1720; Seven Letters to the People of England, 1755; The Hystorye of Kynge Blanchardyne and Princess Eglantyne, 1485; Bateman’s Travayled Pilgrim, 1569; Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories, Tragedies, &c., 1623; amongst many others.
