1 Anon. Ideals of the Ku Klux Klan [KKK]
NP ND Paperback Near Fine
Anon. Ideals of the Ku Klux Klan. NP: no date (circa early-1920s). Staple-bound brochure, 10 by 22.8 cm, 8 pp. Near fine. The platform of the second generation Klan (1921-1940s): “We have been passing through the formative period of the organization, and now we have come to the period of constructive planning and activity. We must know what we are, and the things for which we stand in order that our activity may rightly contribute to the upbuilding of character and of a high-grade citizenship. The time has now come when the world will know the Ku Klux Klan in its true character. Before we can correctly interpret this Order and the things for which it stands we ourselves must know ourselves and the principles and ideals of this Order.” It goes on to list the attributes of the KKK: “This is a white man’s organization … This is a gentile organization … It is an American organization … It is a Protestant organization,” and it details their racial ideals: “we stand for white supremacy,” “we would not rob the colored population of their rights, but we demand that they respect the rights of the White Race in whose country they are permitted to reside,” “purity of the white blood must be maintained,” etc., etc. (eph)

3 Evans, H.W. The Public School Problem in America: Outlining fully the policies and the program of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan toward the Public School System [KKK]
NP KKK 1924 Paperback Very Good +
Evans, H.W. The Public School Problem in America: Outlining fully the policies and the program of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan toward the Public School System. NP: K.K.K., 1924. Staple-bound brochure, 8.9 by 20.4 cm, 25 pp. Very good with a few spots of foxing and uneven yellowing on the back cover only. Evans, then Imperial Wizard of the K.K.K., lays out his support of a free, public school system, free of any industrial, economic, political, or religious propaganda, in an attempt to rid America of Catholic influence and, therefore, Vatican rule. This brochure is the pinnacle of feel-good Klan propaganda: “Let Americans get together – This country contains no element that will not be richly and increasingly benefitted by the development of public schools, nor any element that will not be injured, financially, socially, and spiritually, through a failure to adopt such a program. All that being true, and it is true beyond dispute, every element in America, Protestant and Catholic, should stop fighting each other and unite for the accomplishment of a correct and adequate public school system.” (eph)
