Jail is just a kind of warehouse for poor people. Peg Averill Poster

By: Averill, Peg; War Resisters League

Price: $40.00

Quantity: 1 available

Offset printed poster, 43 by 53.2 cm (17 by 22-inches), near fine with only faint yellowing around the edges. A classic Peg Averill design via the War Resisters League, with her signature illustration style used to great effect in railing against the prison system. This poster was produced at some point in the late 1970s by the War Resisters League (WRL), for an exhibition (likely of Averill’s work) at Gallery 345, at 345 Lafayette St., NYC, right next to the Muste Building, where the WRL has been housed since 1969. Averill (1949-1993) created hundreds of political graphics in the 1970s and ‘80s, which were used by a large number of organizations working on a variety of political issues (anti-war, anti-nuclear, prisoner rights, anti-death penalty, etc.). Her illustrations were often used in the War Resisters League publication WIN.
