Former Department of the Army library copy with their embossed stamp on the title page and stamps on the copyright page, the fore edge of the textblock, and on a few pages. There are also small “withdrawn” stamps on the front and rear pastedowns and the title page. Light rubbing to the corners and spine ends with a quarter-inch split at the head of the spine. A few light scratches on the boards and some lightly faded spots on the spine where some labels were removed. The front and read hinges have been reinforced by a professional binder. A sturdy, good-looking copy that bears a presentation bookplate from the Boston Athenaeum to General Adolphus Washington Greely, the polar explorer and Medal of Honor recipient. The plate features a reproduction of George Washington’s bookplate that is featured on the plate following page 475 of this volume. Divided into four parts, this catalogue is an inventory of Washington’s library after his death and is an invaluable resource. It includes books from the library of General George Washington, other books from Mount Vernon, the writings of Washington, and Washingtoniana. No remainder marks.
