Yates, Richard. A Series of Articles – Mostly Unpublished – on the Paris-Roubaix Cycling Classic. From the archives of On The Wheel Publications, a typed, signed letter from cycling historian and author Richard Yates, a Brit residing in France. Included is a one-page letter signed “Dick,” dated 15 April 2000, along with a ninety-seven page manuscript printed on a dot-matrix printer detailing the Paris-Roubaix—long considered the most grueling of the one-day classics—from 1896 to 1977. Three of the chapters were published in the first volume of Bikelore, but the rest remain unpublished. Yates is the author of Ascent: The Mountains of the Tour de France (2007) and has contributed numerous articles to cycling journals. As mentioned in the letter, these chapters were written four years earlier “and even I am surprised at how political they are. Perhaps not to everyone’s taste but history is my passion (in case you had not noticed!).” (os)
