Comprised of two books in a clamshell case: tan cloth with gilt spine and cover titles (in Japanese), 30 by 39.5 cm, not paginated (125 tipped-in color plates with captions in Japanese and English, near fine with light pink smudges on the head and tail of the spine from rubbing against the red lining of the box; Sewn wraps, 29.5 by 39 cm, xxvi 56 pp., illus., in-depth details of all 125 plates, near fine with only faint signs of wear; Clamshell case, covered with a kind of fuzzy grey cloth, with paper spine and lid labels, and lined with red paper, minor rubbing and edge wear, with some small splits at the head and tail of the spine panel. Also included are two brochures in a large envelopew, one in Japanese and one in Japanese and English, that describe the Shosiin Repository where the artifacts featured in the set reside. A amazing collection of objects are represented, many of which were personal belongings of the Emperor Shomu (died 752 CE).
