[Black Panthers, SNCC] Wire Photo of James Forman. NP: Associated Press, May 15, 1969. Wire photo, 20.5 by 25.3 cm. Very good with a few staple holes in the bottom margin and date stamps and taped headline on verso. Forman (1928-2005) was a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the Black Panthers, and Detroit’s Black Economic Development Conference, for which he authored the “Black Manifesto” that, in part, demanded reparations from white churches for injustices suffered by African Americans. The caption reads: “SAN ANTONIO, TEX., May 15 -- DEMANDS ON CHURCH -- Black militant James Forman, 40, presents his demands for financial retribution to blacks from the nation’s religions before the United Presbyterian general assembly meeting here today.” $25.00
