Very good with light wear to the edges and corners, a few light scuff marks on the spines, and toning to the leaves. Faintly ex-library with a single stamp (5 by 3 cm) on the ffep of each volume, and an embossed stamp on each title page. No exterior markings. The binder had a bit of an issue and switched the gilt titles on the spine of Volume II Parts One and Two. Complete and very solidly bound. Joseph Déchelette, (1862-1914) was a French archaeologist and author of this important work covering the entire field of the prehistory of France. With his uncle, J.-G. Bulliot, Déchelette excavated Gallic ruins at Mont Beuvray and described his findings in L’Oppidum de Bibracte. He published 120 books and articles, but his reputation rests on his Manuel. Volume I includes bibliographic information and abbreviations, prehistoric archeology, a biblographical list of the caves of France, and a bibliographic list of earth stations and workshops of Neolithic France. Volume II includes Celtic or protohistoric archeology, the Bronze Age, and early Iron Age or Hallstatt era.
