Purple cloth with gilt spine titles, dust jacket, 14.7 by 22.8 cm, [30] pp. Hardcover is very good; jacket is good with light edge wear, a few chips, yellowing on the spine, and a spot of skinning on the upper corner of the front panel where it looks like a label was peeled off. Has a label on the rear pastedown that reads “Handbound by Tulamiah with Indian handloom cloth at 13 Patwarbagan Lane, Calcutta.” The Avyakta Upanishad is a Sanskrit text and a minor Upanishad of Hinduism. It is one of 16 Upanishads attached to the Samaveda, and classified under the 17 Vaishnava Upanishad. Purushottama Lal (1929 – 2010), commonly known as P. Lal, was an Indian poet, essayist, translator, professor and publisher. Under the name of P. Lal, he wrote eight books of poetry (this being his fifth), over a dozen volumes of literary criticism, a memoir, several books of stories for children, as well as dozens of translations from other languages, chiefly Sanskrit, into English. He also edited a number of literary anthologies. He was awarded the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship in 1969. The Writers Workshop is a Calcutta-based literary publisher founded by P. Lal in 1958. Over the next few decades it published many new authors of post-independence urban literature, many of these authors later became important. Text is in English. Dust jacket present.
