Catalog no. PRCD 5641. Double vinyl LP in original sleeve. There are a couple pops at the beginning of the first song, otherwise all four sides are VG+. The sleeve is VG with light edge and corner wear. A compilation that will make you want to punch a rocker in the face. Northern Soul and R&B, with some early Kinks, Mitch Ryder, and the Lovin Spoonful thrown in for fun. From Tilly’s clunky sleeve notes: “Gone are the days of the infamous Whiskey-A-Go-Go, Flamingo and Le Discotheque in London and lots of other all nighters around the country which were filled with soul oriented teenagers who wanted to be where the action was. We queued for hours to see the best in R&B and Soul which was around at that time. Admittedly, the Beatles, Searchers and the Liverpool Sound were big business but the underground in set, wanted the American Scene of that time which encompassed Tommy Tucker, Fontella Bass, Tony Clark [sic] and all those other soul grates. Thanks to programs like ‘Ready, Steady, Go’ on a Friday evening, the weekend did really start here—so many of the acts on this album appeared on this incredible show which brought the music that was really happening to the masses—listen to Jimmy James and Geno Washington wailin’ out the sounds. Get your parkas, jump on your Lambrettas, pop a few blues and go back—way back to those sweaty, crazy nights in the unforgettable ‘60s.” Includes songs by Migil 5, Kinks, The Dells, Fontella Bass & Bobby McClure, Tony Clarke, Jimmy James, Lovin Spoonful, Geno Washington, Mitch Ryder, Sandie Shaw, Fontella Bass, Dave Baby Cortez, Toys, Big Dee Irwin, Foundations, Sugar Pie Desanto, Billy Stewart, and Little Tommy Tucker.
