Not dated (last date listed for Matisse exhibitions in 1957/8). Hardcover with dust jacket, yellow cloth with black spine titles and cover decorations, 21.5 by 30.2 cm, 428 pp., 920 illus., of which 41 are full-color tipped-in plates. Very good with only faint signs of shelf wear and light yellowing to the leaves and edges of the textblock; the jacket is near fine. From the jacket: "This book traces Kandinsky's life from his early preparation for a career in law, and tells us in detail about the shaping of this strange and fascinating personality […] Every one of his oil paintings is reproduced, along with a great many drawings, prints and sketches." 920 illustrations including 41 beautiful tipped-in color plates. A beautiful copy. As always, will be shipped in a box, not a bag or bubble envelope.
