Light green cloth with full-panel cover and spine decorations in black, silver, and gold, illus. endpapers, 21 by 27 cm, color frontis, 722 pp., “embellished with over 1500 elegant engravings, illustrating the animals of the Earth in their natural condition, and [2] magnificent colored plates.” Light rubbing to the boards, with scratches and light stains; wear at the corners and softening and small tears at the head and tail of the spine. The front and rear hinges are cracked, but intact; the ffep has small chips and tears, and the rear free endpaper is detached. The leaves are heavily toned and somewhat brittle, with some light stains on the fore-edge. The subtitle says it all; a not entirely scientific look at the animals of the world. Heavily illustrated with wonderful, and sometimes ridiculous, drawings.
