Catalog no. BST-84415. Twelve-inch vinyl LP in original sleeve. The disc is near fine with awesome sound; the sleeve is very good with light rubbing and corner wear. Includes the original Blue Note catalog inner sleeve. Not only a surprisingly good soundtrack but a hoppin’ one! On the first track, you may wonder “why does it sound like a collegiate-level marching band doing music for a porno?” But then the funk kicks in and tympanist gets a little crazy, and it sounds great! It’s no wonder that Grant Green is now considered a jazz guitar genius and why Blue Note chose this album to be their first soundtrack release. The film itself is a 1972 drama written, produced and directed by Oscar Williams and starring Billy Dee Williams and D'Urville Martin. “The film,” I’ll quote Wikipedia, “is an examination of racism in the United States and depicts a shootout between a radical black nationalist group and the police, with the backstory leading up to the shootout told through flashbacks. The radical group is not identified by name in the film but closely resembles the Black Panther Party.”
