Staple-bound wraps with glossy color covers, 18 by 25.5 cm, 66 pp., illus. Good with light wear, soiling, and corner creases on the covers, light foxing on the fore-edge, and a light musty smell. Dated in pen on the title page (July 29, 1970) and inscribed and signed by the author on the dedication page: “Especially signed for Ardie [?] with love – Inez Hunt.” One of the more scarce titles by Hunt, who has written numerous books on the history of Colorado and its citizens. This volume, written for the juvenile market, profiles Barney Lancelot Ford (1822 – 1902), an escaped slave who became a wealthy businessman and civil-rights pioneer in Colorado.
