Deuerlein, Ed, ed. Wisconsin Cycling Volume 3 Number 10. Milwaukee: Wisconsin Cycling, Vol. 3, No. 10, Nov.-Dec. 1977. Staple-bound wraps, 21.5cm by 27.4cm, 24 pp. Very good with highlighting and mailing label (see below). The cover of this issue features Leroy “The Tyger” Johnson running, with bike shouldered, in a cyclo-cross race - a sport that predated mountain biking by several decades. This is a classic image of a classic ‘cross rig; single chainring with guard, bar-end shifters, drilled plastic saddle, cantilever brakes… Tyger Johnson won the 1963, 1966 and 1967 National Cyclo-Cross Championships, as well as a host of regional events. This issue has Johnson’s Illinois mailing label on the back cover, and faint highlighting on two pages that mention the Tyger. Distributed at the 1977 ‘cross championships, this issue includes a short history of the sport and course information. (eph)
